Long hours at a laptop can leave your neck, shoulders, and upper back feeling tight and uncomfortable. Here are three simple ways to manage tension throughout your workday and feel better.
1. Neck stretches
Gently tilt your head towards each shoulder, hold for 15–20 seconds, then slowly turn your head from side to side. Keep the movements comfortable and never force a stretch.
2. Shoulder rolls
Roll your shoulders backwards 10 times, then gently squeeze your shoulder blades together for a few seconds. Repeat throughout the day, especially after long periods of sitting.
3. Take regular movement breaks
Get up, walk around, and change position regularly. Adjust your screen to eye level and keep your shoulders relaxed while typing.
Don’t forget massage.
Regular neck, shoulder and upper-back massage can help relieve muscle tension, ease discomfort and give you time to unwind. If desk work regularly leaves you feeling tight, consider booking a maintenance session every 2–4 weeks, adjusting the frequency to your needs and how your body responds.
Small, consistent changes can make a difference. You don’t have to wait until the tension builds up to look after yourself.
